In
1998 I passed a huge multi-panel Japanese screen at the National
Gallery. I walked to the right and looked back. Then to the
left. Then to the front again.
It
was far more than eight connected works. The even panels made
a pleasing whole when viewed from the left; and the odd panels
made a different work from the far right!
This
book was made in an afternoon workshop. It is tiny, with scraps
of old computages and other papers forming eight pages of a
fanfold book. It is purely abstract; an exploration of colors,
textures and shapes in even, odd, and total sequence.
Perhaps
that ancient screen was in the back of my mind.
The
images were so different and spontaneous, I decided to scan each page at 1200 d.p.i.
