Brushes don't make paintings
and computers don't make art.
Computers are easy.
Art is hard.

About Hot Wax Computage
Procedure:
- digital photographs (by the artist) are computer enhanced, manipulated, combined, composed, and painted,
- thermal wax-transfer panels are printed, to be
- heat textured, blended, layered and hand mounted.
The results range from subtle changes to the computer image to work in which the subject is almost obliterated.
These works can not be duplicated. They are positively one-of-a-kind.

Encaustic "Hot Wax Computage" combines cerebral computer imaging with active, hands-on manipulation of media. "Hot" evokes the temperature of the procedure, intense physical and mental involvement, and the emotions kindled.
I had printed some dark, crisp enhancements of scanned plants - technically demanding, visually awful. So I experimented with a hand iron and doilies. Suddenly there was color, texture and interest instead of a field of hard, shiny black. Motions had to be large, fast and sure - so different from computer "mousing."
